Dear Patagonia,

It is with mixed emotions that I return these boardies to you after 15 years of outstanding service. I purchased them from your retail store in Ventura and since then they have had a busy and productive life.

They paddled rivers throughout Canada, Chile, Sri Lanka and the States. Surf trips to India Sri Lanka, Indo, Aussie, Peru, Ecuador all over Mexico and have spent way in excess of 60 months accumulated in Southern Baja, where we live 1/2 time. It took years before they required any maintenance, well and as you can see they have a new ass end. A recycled beach umbrella has done the job well. Also the material ﬂap that was hanging off for ages has now been sewn into the butt end of another pair of (non Patagonia) boardies that fell apart … so they still live on.

The cut and design of these are amazing, it is hard to ﬁnd a pair that ﬁts me so well … old school style works for this older shorter guy. So, hopefully your R&D group may ﬁnd some way of bringing back this functional style and rugged piece of gear. Oh yeah, are they still covered by your legendary warranty and repair service?

The Chand Baori well, Rajasthan, India.

‘Built in the 9th century, it has 3500 narrow steps and 13 stories and is 100 feet deep.

Built back in the 10th century, the incredible well of Chand Baori, India was a practical solution to the water problem in the area. The arid climate forced the locals to dig deep for a dependable water source, one that would last throughout an entire year. Chand Baori well is 30 meters deep, it has 13 floors and 3,500 steps.

It is a fine example of the architectural excellence prevalent in the past. This impressive step well is as deep as a seven storeyed building. The famous Harshat Mata temple situated opposite to this well shows that there must have been a religious connection with the step-well. Length of well is 35 metres on each side with steps leading down from each side and water can be drawn from any level.’

The well was used in the film The Fall, starring Lee Pace.
